RRS DISCOVERY, a historic British vessel celebrated for its Antarctic explorations. Launched in 1901 it was specifically engineered for scientific research and exploration in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and Antarctic. The ship is best known for its role in the British National Antarctic Expedition (1901-1904) led by Lieutenant Robert Falcon Scott.
During this expedition RRS DISCOVERY traveled extensively into the Antarctic, gathering scientific data, mapping uncharted regions and carrying out groundbreaking research. It also served as a crucial base for several pioneering missions, including the first successful journey to the South Pole from the Southern Hemisphere.
