The original Typhoon, designed by George Crouch in 1929, is known for its elegance and performance. Edsel Ford, a boat racing enthusiast, commissioned a replica after seeing the Introductory Clip and named it Typhoon. At 40 feet long and with a powerful Wright Typhoon engine, it could carry eight adults but lacked amenities.
Sold to Howard Hughes in 1941 Typhoon passed through several owners before ending up in Kentucky. In the late 1960s it was moved to Seattle, where it was destroyed by a fire at Bryants Marina.
