During World War I ST. PAVEL participated in numerous naval battles, including the Battle of Moon Sound, where it played a crucial role in defending the Gulf of Riga. However the ship’s career underwent dramatic changes during the Russian Revolution. In 1917 after the Bolshevik uprising, the crew members of ST. PAVEL rebelled and joined the revolutionaries.
