Historical information Hms Bellona Tall Ship Model:
HMS Bellona, a third rate, 74 gun ship of the Bellona class in the Royal Navy, utilized during the Napoleonic Wars. Designed by Sir Thomas Slade and constructed at Chatham, she was laid down on May 10, 1758 launched on February 19, 1760 and commissioned three days later. She joined the blockade fleet off Brest on April 8.
In 1762 Bellona was decommissioned and did not see further service until 1780, during the American Revolutionary War. By 1783, she was active in the North Sea, the West Indies and participated in operations near Gibraltar.
In 1801 she took part in the Battle of Copenhagen, even though she was aground at the time. She continued her service in the North Sea and Bay of Biscay until 1814 when she was decommissioned and laid up. Having served for over 50 years, her longevity was exceptionally long for a wooden ship.
