Hector gained renown for his involvement in the initial significant migration of Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia in 1773. A replica of the original vessel can be found at Hector Heritage Quay is a heritage center managed by local volunteers in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Its notable journey occurred in 1773.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, heritage officials in Nova Scotia aimed to honor Hector’s role in Scottish history in the region. This effort led to the establishment of the Ship Hector Foundation in 1992 by volunteers from Pictou County and other regions. They initiated fundraising campaigns to construct, maintain and operate the Hector replica.
